A silver-linked supramolecular cluster encapsulating a cesium cation
The solid-state, gas-phase, and solution characterization of the predesigned cluster Cs[(SnL3)(2)Ag-3] is presented (L = 4-(diphenylphosphino)benzene-1,2-diol). The solid-state structure confirms formation of a C-3/l, mesocate featuring three silver(I) cations linking two enantiomeric {SnL3}(2-) halves and encapsulating a Cs+ cation. The presence of the Cs+ cation is essential for successful formation of this pentametallic cluster. The H-1, C-13, and P-31 NMR spectra as well as FAB mass spectrum of the complex are consistent with retention of this supramolecular structure in solution and the gas phase. [GRAPHICS]
