A generalized transient back-flow model to predict the transient tracer concentration in a multistage extraction column has been developed. The model does not assume any extra stage at the end of the contactor and is based on unified formulation. The solution can be obtained in a straight forward way by using the linear operator theoretic approach as opposed to Laplace transform.
