Synthesis and properties of phosphorus-containing advanced epoxy resins. II
Two phosphorus-containing diacids were synthesized from 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide (DOPO) and either maleic acid or itaconic acid and then reacted with diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) to form two series of advanced epoxy resins. Reaction conditions, such as reaction time, temperature and catalyst, are discussed in this article. After curing with 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS), thermal properties of cured epoxy resins were studied using dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The flame retardancy of cured epoxy resins was evaluated using a UL-94 measurement.
