Enzymatic Saccharification of Soybean Hull-Based Materials
The feasibility of biodegradability of materials made from soy hulls is investigated in this study. A mixture of enzymes responsible for degradation of cellulose, hemicellulose, and starch, principal constituents of agrowastes, is employed for degradation of soy hulls and soy hull-based materials. The effects of hey parameters, such as initial concentrations of different enzymes, reactor temperature, method and speed of agitation, size of samples to be degraded, pH, and processing temperature on degradation of the polysaccharides, are investigated. The ease of biodegradability of soy hulls and processed soy hulls is demonstrated by the very high extents of degradation achieved.
