Lipase production by Yarrowia lipolytica was growth associated and, at the beginning of cultivation, it was mainly cell-bound. Lipase release into the culture medium started when about 50% of the carbon source (olive oil or glucose) was consumed reaching its maximum concentration in the late stationary phase.
