Lipase-Catalyzed Synthesis of Terpene Esters by Transesterification in N-Hexane
Short chain fatty acid esters of geraniol and citronellol were synthesized by lipase-catalyzed transesterification with yields as high as 98% molar conversion. Triacylglycerols were the best substrates and immobolized Candida antarctica lipase, SP435 gave the highest overall yields. The lipases tested successfully accommodated novel acyl donors such as isopropenyl acetate and glycidyl butyrate.
