Thin cathodoluminescent films deposited by sol-gel process
We prepared transparent sol solution of tin(IV) oxide doped with various concentrations of europium or terbium from inorganic (chloride) precursors. Thin films were deposited by the dip-coating method on glass substrates and heated in the air up to 500 degrees C. The doped SnO2 films were transparent and have the same composition as the sol. AES analysis showed higher concentration of tin on the surface of films. SEM micrographs showed that the films were smooth and dense. X-ray diffraction indicated that films were amorphous and became crystalline after 8 h of heating. Optical characteristics like transmittance and cathodoluminescence were also investigated.
