Electrochemical Investigation of the Alpha/Beta-Phase Transition of Silver Sulfide
The kinetics of the temperature induced alpha/beta-phase transition of silver sulfide has been investigated using solid galvanic cells of the type Agalpha-AgIAg2S. Single precipitation events have been observed during the beta-->alpha transformation, where alpha indicates the low temperature modification. The nucleation free enthalpy of excess silver in Ag2+deltaS has been determined and the influence of elastic stress in the Ag precipitation process is considered.
