Hydrothermal Synthesis and Characterization of Lixv2-Delta-O4-Delta-H2O
We report here the synthesis of a new layered lithium vanadium oxide using mild hydrothermal methods. The reaction of vanadium oxide in acidic media in the presence of lithium and tetramethyl ammonium ions leads to a tetragonal structure, a = 3.705(1) Angstrom and c = 15.804(1) Angstrom with space group I 4/mmm. This vanadium oxide readily reacts with lithium ions. No tetramethyl ions are incorporated into the structure, but their presence is essential to the formation of the phase. In the absence of lithium ions, the new phase [N(CH3)(4)]V4O10 is formed.
