Prospects for Ceramic Electrochemical Reactors in Industry
Ceramic electrochemical reactors are being investigated to cogenerate electricity and chemicals in revolutionary new processes. Advantages of the new electroceramic processes are envisioned to include enhanced catalytic activity and selectivity due to electrocatalysis trocatalysis, better process integration, reduced feedstock costs, and uniquely active surfaces for chemical reaction (NEMCA). Prospects for realizing these advantages are evaluated in the context of industrial requirements. Revision of the conventional equation of oxygen flux is suggested and new correlations among membrane properties are presented.
