A Hadamard Weighted Loop Shaping Design Procedure for Robust Decoupling
We introduce a design procedure for linear system controllers that incorporates the loop shaping design procedure of McFarlane and Glover (IEEE Trans. Aut. Control, AC-37, 759-769, 1992), and allows element-by-element weighting, or Hadamard weighting, of the closed loop. The method provides a single design variable which the designer can vary to trade off stability robustness with performance. We carry out a design example on an ill-conditioned plant. This example demonstrates the straightforward and intuitive nature of the of the new design method; the ease with which approximate decoupling may be enforced while maintaining stability robustness; and the way in which time domain requirements may be achieved using H(infinity) based techniques.
