The development of the competitive electricity supply market in the United Kingdom and government support for renewable energy technologies is discussed. Non-Pooled trading in renewable electricity is described and economic comparisons are made of electricity prices. Experiences in the new market are outlined and a positive future is predicted. The Renewable Energy Company Ltd. has been selling green electricity to the commercial sector since 1996, the first electricity supplier to do so. It is the largest dedicated supplier of renewable energy in Europe.
