Opportunities of exporting solar energy from the Arab World to Europe
Due to an increasing public awareness of environmental issues, a steadily growing demand for electricity produced out of renewable energy sources can be seen. Based upon German experience it is shown that customers are ready to pay additional charges for renewable power. This leads to a rising number of wind-turbines and photovoltaic systems. At the moment there is still sufficient potential on rooftops for photovoltaic systems. Nonetheless, solar power will only deliver 20 to 30% of the electric power requested, if this potential is in work totally. If the Arab World takes its chance, it might be possible to cover the rest by solar power produced in the Arab World.
