Methacrylate copolymers containing azoanthraquinone units: synthesis by direct copolymerization and by polymer-analogous esterification
New redoxactive materials were obtained by the radical copolymerization of the methacrylate monomer containing azoanthraquinone (1) with benzylmethacrylate (2) or phenylmethacrylate (3). Furthermore, the polymer-analogous esterification of polymethacrylic acid with seven various alkylhalides (4-10) in the presence of CsF was studied and used for the synthesis of the copolymer p7co10 with benzyl and azoanthraquinone side groups. A new synthetical route to copolymethylmethacrylates was developed: the radical copolymerization of methylmethacrylate (11) and methacrylic acid (12) yielded p11co12, which could be esterificated with the azoanthraquinone bromide (10) forming the copolymer p11co10 containing methyl and azoanthraquinone side groups.
