This article summarises the present position with regard to National Grid Company＇s transmission system and the changes to it to meet the rapidly changing demands of electricity generation and transmission in England and Wales. It then outlines NGC＇s principal objectives for developments relating to overhead lines and comments on how these relate to recent thinking within countries active in CIGRE.
