Preliminary-Analysis of the H-1-NMR and C-13-NMR Spectra Poly(2-Vinyl-5-Methyl Furan)
The title polymer was synthesized via thermal and AIBN initiation. The 300 MHz H-1-NMR and 75.5 MHz C-13-NMR spectra were recorded and analyzed in terms of polymer stereochemistry. The H-NMR was very similar to the H-1-NMR spectra of poly(2- and 3-vinyl thiophene) and could be interpreted in a like manner. The analysis of the H-1-NMR led to the conclusion that poly(2-vinyl-5-methyl furan) is an atactic polymer when synthesized under free radical conditions. Analysis of the C-13-NMR spectrum supported this conclusion.
