Polymer supported Ru(III) complexes, synthesis and catalytic activity
Crosslinked chloromethylated polystyrene-divinylbenzene polymers were chemically modified into Schiff base bearing ligands. Catalytically active metal supported polymers containing Ru(IU) moieties were synthesized from these ligands for use in the selective epoxidation of olefins in presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant. These ruthenium anchored polymers were characterized by spectral and thermoanalytical methods. Catalyst morphology and physicochemical properties such as surface area, bulk density and swelling behaviour in different solvents were studied. The effects of reaction parameters such as catalyst concentration, temperature, time and solvent on conversion and selectively in the epoxidation of cis-cyclooctene and styrene are discussed.
