Rate and Temperature-Dependence of Fracture-Toughness in ABS Resins in Relation to Dispersed-Phase Structure
The paper compares the fracture behaviour of two ABS terpolymers having the same glassy matrix and similar dispersed phase volume, but different amounts of glassy sub-inclusions in the rubbery particles. The fracture toughness of the two materials showed similar strain rate dependence, but different temperature dependence. The results are interpreted in terms of different deformation mechanisms occurring at the failure zone ahead of the crack tip.
