The stability conditions of the Patterson theory and the Sanchez-Lacombe equation-or-state theory have been compared. It turned out that, for a certain special case, the free-volume part for both conditions can be put into analytically similar forms. Moreover, numerical calculations show that this special case is also a good approximation of the general case.
