Viscosity properties of hydroxyl-containing oxidation products of pentaerythritol esters
Methods of thermogravimetry, chromatography and viscometry have been used to investigate the oxidation products of pentaerythritol esters. It has been found that, during the oxidation of pentaerythritol tetraesters, an appreciable amount of triester is formed through the oxidative detachment of the acyloxy group. In a study of the viscosity properties of mixtures of pentaerythrate tetra and triesters with a different ratio of components, it has been established that the formation of hydroxyl-containing products makes a considerable contribution to the mechanism of increase in the viscosity of pentaerythritol esters under oxidation conditions.
