HYDROGENATION OF PIPERYLENE ON A ZIEGLER-NATTA TYPE CATALYST -CO(II, III) MU(3)-OXOSTEARATE-AL(C2H5)3
Catalyst [Co2(III)Co(II)OSt6(H2O)3].5H2O-AlEt3 is highly active in the hydrogenation of piperylene. The reaction is 0.3 order with respect to the diene and first-order with respect to hydrogen and the catalyst. A change in temperature from 293 to 253 K lowers the specific hydrogenation rate of the diene from 107.8 to 20.6 mole H-2/g-at Co.min, and selectivity from 78 to 67%.
