A new magnetic separator and classifier: Prototype design
Conventional mineral processing methods require the separation and classification of magnetic minerals to be performed in two distinct process steps. We present an innovative design for a magnetic separator in which these two steps are performed at the same time and in the same machine. This is achieved by using a unique trunk geometry, a central superconducting magnet and several collectors, which allow us to collect the magnetic particles by classes as they are being separated. A detailed design of the prototype is presented, together with the physics justifying its functionality.
