The growth of pure and cadmium doped strontium tartrate tetrahydrate single crystals in silica gel is described. A systematic study of the dependence of the uptake of the dopant on the molarity of the dopant employed for the growth is presented in this paper. X-ray diffraction, Chemical etching, TGA, DSC, FTIR studies have been done and the results are reported.
