Ruthenium(II) coordination polymers bearing lateral methyl and adamantylmethylene substituents, respectively, have bean prepared via reaction of equimolar amounts of tetrapyridophenazine 2 and the novel metal monomers [Ru(R(2)bpy)Cl-3](x) (3a,b)(R : a, methyl; b, adamantylmethylene). Moreover, the bulky adamantylmethylene substituents are shown to cause a significantly more extended chain conformation of the intrinsically rigid, ribbon-like coordination polymers 1 than is found for other polymers of this kind available so far.
