Fluorinated Alumina as a Catalyst for Skeletal Isomerization of N-Butene
Alumina modified by various fluorine containing compounds has been studied in reactions of n-butene. Combination of the results thus obtained with pieces of information from the literature leads to the following model. Skeletal isomerization takes place on Lewis acid sites as a monomolecular conversion, while on a catalyst with Bronsted acid sites the bimolecular mechanism can prevail. Experiments with higher alkenes support this picture.
