Acidity and Catalytic Activity of B-Al Beta-Zeolite
Boron atoms incorporated into the framework of zeolite beta during synthesis are nearly quantitatively removed from the solid after activation by thermal/hydrothermal treatments followed by ion exchange. Boron extraction is accompanied by the removal of small amounts of aluminium and silicon and results in the creation of isolated defect sites. The acidity and the cracking properties of the activated zeolite are governed by the aluminium content, independently of the composition of the parent material.
