Electrophoretic 3D-Mobility Profiles of Latex-Particles with Different Surface Groups
Latex particles with divergent characteristics, Like surface morphology, charge, and functional groups, were synthesized. In particular, hydroxyl functions were investigated in different surroundings. The technique of electrophoretic fingerprinting was applied to determine and illustrate the complex colloidal behavior in aqueous medium under variation of pH and ionic strength. BD-profiles of electrophoretic mobility showed a separation of our latex particle types into two classes : (a) mobility is dominated by a salt dependence, and (b) pH dependence dominates the electrophoretic behavior. Independent surface charge density data, from streaming potential or flocculation measurements, were helpful in interpreting the electrophoresis characteristics.
