Physical-Properties of the Isotropic-Phase Present in the CTAB/Ppg/H2O System - A Study of the Presence of an L(2) Phase at High Surfactant and Polymer Concentration
An isotropic and clear phase has been found in the system CTAB/poly(propylene glycol) (PPG)/water, PPG (MW = 425 and 1000), from the water-rich to the polymer-rich corners. We have studied the physical properties of the region by different technqiues, such as conductivity, steady-state quenching fluorescence, and viscosity, and the influence of the system on the alkaline hydrolysis of crystal violet. We have found that both molecular weights of PPG behave as a medium chain alcohol and that reverse micelles mainly form with the polymer of higher molecular weight.
