Rotational Diffusion of Colloid Spheres in Suspension Investigated by Deuteron NMR
H-2-NMR pulse techniques have been applied to probe reorientational motion of small deuterated polystyrene spheres in suspensions of a viscous liquid on a time scale of 10(-3)-1 s. The rotational correlation functions obtained could be fitted by stretched exponentials with a stretching parameter that decreases on lowering the temperature. The hydrodynamic sphere radius obtained from the mean rotational correlation times agrees with that from dynamic light scattering in dilute suspensions.
