On-line assessment of the joint profile with the aid of a specially trained neural network can be used for qualitative prediction of the mechanical seam properties of vibration-welded thermoplastic parts. In applications with complex geometries, the amount of time-intensive and costly subsequent testing of the finished parts can be significantly reduced.
