Expandable graphite
Expandable graphite occupies 280 times its initial volume at approx. 900 degrees C and smothers flames in the event of a fire. Commercial uses are to be found, e.g., in expanded polyurethane - primarily public transport - but also in sealants for building joints, in cable segregation, fire protection collars for segregating pipes and lately also in plastics.
