Nano-structure blacks - A new carbon black family designed to meet truck tire performance demands
Nano-structure blacks are a new carbon black family produced by physical surface modification in a furnace reactor. Various grades with altered specific surface areas and structure levels are now available. The main characteristics of these novel blacks is a unusually rough surface which leads to enhanced interaction forces with rubbers. Due to a narrow aggregate size distribution with limited amounts of large aggregates not only hysteresis but also treadwear is improved compared to conventional blacks. This makes nano-structure blacks particularly suitable for usage in truck tire applications.
