Apparent shear stress, apparent viscosity and die swell of the gum and silica filled EPDM rubber compounds were determined with the Monsanto Processability Tester. There is a significant reduction in the stress and viscosity by blowing agent in the presence of curing agent vs. its absence. Viscosity reduction factor is found to be dependent on the blowing agent loading, shear rate and temperature.
