This paper describes the strategy for design of rubber components and focuses on the role and limitations of finite element stress analysis. The sensitivity of results to operating conditions is illustrated for various applications including engine mounts. This can amount to in excess of 20 % variance, which has a significant bearing on planning physical testing work and prediction of product life.
