Carboxylic anhydride groups and carboxylic acid groups in polyamide melts P Part 2. Transfer of the decomposition mechanism to so-called macromolecular decomposition agents for the formation of graft copolymers
Carboxylic acid groups show a surprisingly high reactivity under polyamide melt conditions. During melt processing of polyamide 6 with acrylic acid grafted polyolefines, acrylic acid grafted EVA copolymers as so-called high molecular weight decomposition agent were specially studied, a coupling reaction by a random transamidation reaction of the acrylic acid groups with the polyamide chains could be shown. The results are discussed in comparison to mechanisms published in the literature.
