STEEL BELT TIRES FOR MOTORCYCLES
The recent development of powerful motorcycles with speeds up to 300 km/h confronted tyre manufacturers with new requirements, i.e. mainly improvement of the motorcycle high speed stability and the structure resistance of the conventional tyres. Pirelli is the first tyre manufacturer to introduce in the market a steel belted 0 degrees-motorcycle rear tyre. To guarantee the high speed structural resistance, new belt materials were required. After an intensive research period, it was decided to introduce steel as a belt material. The steel belt enables the tyre to provide the required higher level of structure resistance, resulting in a minimisation of tread movement of the rolling tyre, and in a minimisation in growth of the dynamic radius with increasing speeds. This new tyre increases the riding performance mainly in safety related areas.
