Drop formation from impeller with static mixers
The formation mechanism and its behavior of the drops from a novel impeller which is equipped with static mixers on a circular plate are studied experimentally. Depending on the revolution of the impeller, the mechanism of drop formation changes from single drops at the end of the mixers or single drops by breakup of the liquid jets to those within the mixers. The distribution profile of the drop size moves from unimodal to bimodal large size, and further to unimodal small size. It is found that, in the region of higher revolutions of the impeller, the Sauter mean diameter of the drops is correlated with the -0.59 power of Weber number based on revolutions and the diameter of impeller.
