The effect of temperature and concentration of calcium alginate in the beads on the sorption of copper
Cu(II) ions were sorbed on Ca alginate beads from an aq. soln. to study the effect of temp. on the process. Two types of alginate granules were prepd. by a conventional method or by a specially developed high concn. method (alginate contents 2.6% and 20.3% by mass, resp.). The sorption process was studied at 25 degrees C or 35 degrees C and pH 5, and described by Langmuir isotherms. The max. sorption capacity and affinity to metal ions were detd. The increase in temp. resulted in an increase in the sorption capacity and in decreasing affinity of the biosorbent to the Cu ions.
