X-ray structure and DSC of mesomorphous 4-n-butyloxyphenyl-4 '-methacryloyloxybenzoate, CH2=C(CH3)-COO-C6H4-COO-C6H4-O-C4H9
The crystal structure of the title compound has been determined. The molecule is non-planar, the dihedral angle between the phenyl rings is equal to 84.2(10)degrees. In crystal, weak C-H horizontal ellipsis O hydrogen bonds combine molecules in infinite chains. Crystal packing does not reveal features typical for enantiotropic mesomorphous compounds. This is in accordance with the DSC data showing that the compound is subjected to the Cr - Iso - N - Cr phase transitions on heating followed by cooling the melt.
