Measurements ale presented of gas mixing in a downflowing high-velocity fluidized bed using helium tracer detected by an on-line analyzer. It was found that gas backmixing is very limited in the downer, and the lateral mixing is comparable with that in the riser: A dispersion model is applied to characterize the behavior of the gas mixing in the two-phase downflowing mixture.
