Electrochemical-Behavior of Fluorinated Fullerenes C60Fx and C70Fx
Electrochemical properties of C60F46 and C70F54 have been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in CH2Cl2 containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)). The electrochemical reductions of C70F54 are reported for the first time. The reduction potential of C70F54 is more positive than that of C-70 by 1.57 V. The differences in electrochemical properties between C70Fx and C-70 are parallel to the differences between C60Fx and C-60. Based on the relationship between the reduction potential and electron affinity (E(a)), the E(a) of C70F54 is estimated to be ca. 4.42 eV, which is 1.76 eV larger than that of C-70.
