Effective control of two-photon absorption of DCM dye by solvent manipulation
The imaginary part of third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility (Im chi degrees) and two-photon absorption cross-section (sigma(2)) of DCM dye dissolved in tetrahydrofuran, chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide were obtained using nonlinear transmission method at 635 nm in ps regime. The Im chi degrees and sigma(2) values change with changing the solvent polarity parameter in the following way: and . However, in the case of DCM dissolved in chloroform, these values are about four times higher comparing with the parameters obtained for DCM dissolved in polar solvents. Therefore, using different solvents one can change, influence, enhance and control the nonlinear optical properties of DCM dye.
