Generating Plateau Burning Segments for Composite Solid Rocket Propellants
Plateau burning is a highly desired phenomenon for composite solid rocket propellants. Three composite propellant compositions were prepared in an attempt to generate plateau burning segments. In these compositions the curative type was changed along with controlling the coarse to fine ratio of the oxidizer particles. The prepared compositions were extensively tested at one-MPa segments from 1 to 14 MPa through strand burner technique. The results showed that depriving the combustion process from the thermal energy causes the plateau to exist. The thermal depriving was achieved through controlling the spacing of coarse and fine particle of the oxidizer, to reduce the intensity of their combustion flame, and through employing binders that possess high activation energy for the first decomposition stage. These findings were proven through the appearance of bi-plateau segments for the first time for one of the employed isocyanates.
