Studies on oxidative cleavage of alpha-methylstyrene with oxygen in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide in alternative solvents
alpha-Methylstyrene was converted to AcPh and HCHO in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide, COO acetylacetonate and azobis(isobutyronitrile) in ionic liqs. or supercrit. CO2 as solvents (70 or 80 degrees C). The conversion of alpha-methylstyrene was higher in ionic liq. than in crit. CO2 but the selectivity to AcPh formation was higher in supercrit. CO2 than in ionic liqs.
