Reduction of hair shampoos irritant potential by application of new zwitterionic surfactants
Four new surfactants (N-tetradecyl-N-propylomorpholine3-sulfonate, N-tetradecyl-N-butylomorpholine-4-sulfonate, N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethy1-3-amonio-1-propanesulfonate, N-tetradecyl-N,N-dimethy1-4-amonio-1-butanesulfonate) were used (2% by mass) as components of prototype shampoos. In addn., a mixture of 3 other surfactants (base), which included Na salts of lauryl alc. sulfate, ethoxylated lauryl alc. sulfate and diethanoloamide of fatty acids from coconut oil was used in all prototype shampoos in mass concns. of 5.4%, 3.3% and 2.0% by mass, resp. Moreover, a reference shampoo was made based on cocoamidopropyl betaine to compare irritant properties of the tested shampoos. Values of zein no. of the tested shampoos as well as pH values of shampoo mixts. with bovine serum albumin (used as measure of irritant properties) showed that prototype shampoos were more gently affected on a skin as compared to the ref. shampoo.
