Study on the Alkoxylation of Dihydromyrcene over Cation Exchange Resins
Reaction of dihydromyrcene (DHM) alkoxylated with 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol catalyzed by resin catalysts was systematically researched. The conditions were optimized after the investigation of resin type, ratio of reactants, and temperature in a stirred tank reactor. Thermodynamic data ranging from 343.15 to 363.15 K were revised by UNIFAC group contribution method, evaluating the parameters as follows: Delta H-r(0) = -49.5 kJ.mol(-1), Delta S-r(0) = -157.6 J.mol(-1).K-1, and Delta(r)G(0) = -2.5 kJ.mol(-1). Kinetic equations derivated from the pseudohomogeneous (PH) model were applied for fitting the experimental data with the internal and external diffusion eliminated in this alkoxylation system. The agreement of the results suggested that the PH model can be used to describe the alkoxylation of DHM.
