Boosting the oxygen evolution electrocatalysis of layered nickel hydroxidenitrate nanosheets by iron doping
Development of earth-abundant electrocatalysts with high activities and strong duribilities for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) has received the increased interests for various sustainable energy storage and conversion systems. Herein, we report a novel non-noble metal electrocatalyst based on layered nickel hydroxidenitrate [Ni-3(NO3)(2)(OH)(4)] nano sheets and demonstrate that iron doping strategy greatly boosts their OER performances.. The spectroscopic investigation and cyclic voltammetry analysis confirm the favorable electronic interaction between nickel and iron in Ni3-xFex(NO3)(2)(OH)(4). The optimal Ni2.85Fe0.25(NO3)(2)(OH)(4) catalyst exhibits the earlier onset potential and smaller over potential at 10 mA cm(-2) compared with those of the state-of-the-art IrO2 in 1.0 M KOH solution.
