Cobalt-free dual-phase oxygen transporting membrane reactor for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane
In this work, the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane (ODHE) was investigated in a cobalt-free dual-phase membrane Ce0.9Gd0.1 O2-delta - BaFe0.9Mg0.05Ce0.05O3-delta (CGO-BFMC) with good chemical stability and catalytic performance. Two operation modes were taken to compare the catalytic performance of CGO-BFMC membrane for ODHE. Compared to the co-feed mode with gaseous oxygen, the selectivity and yield of ethylene in membrane mode were significantly enhanced by 18% and 15%, respectively, which probably benefits from the continuous supply of selective oxygen species via oxygen transporting membrane. An ethylene yield of 63% was obtained at 725 degrees C, which was steadily operated in lab for over 200 h. No obvious decline in selectivity and yield of ethylene was observed, and the spent membrane was still dense after 200 h of operation.
