The study of irreversible capacity in lithium-ion anodes prepared with thermally oxidized graphite
The effect of thermal oxidation on the anodic characteristics of graphite was investigated. This treatment led to a large increase in irreversible capacity which was attributed to the expansion of pores in the graphite. Variations in the electrolyte were found to significantly affect the magnitude of this increase. A comparison of various electrolytes was used to study the irreversible reduction reactions which take place at the anode during the first cycle of a lithium-ion cell.
