This letter presents precise analysis to determine the best voltage vector to permanent magnet synchronous motors in direct torque control under transient and steady state. It proves that the vector is oriented along the permanent magnet back EMF vector in transient state, independent of the operating conditions and system parameters. The analysis is also carried out for salient PMS motors. In addition, some implementation issues for determining the voltage vector are discussed.
